Heavy police presence at SE Calgary home after ‘suspicious vehicle’ fled officers

Police are surrounding a home in southeast Calgary on Thursday afternoon after tailing a vehicle there.

Calgary police tell CityNews a “suspicious vehicle” fled from officers around 1:30 p.m.

Officers were able to track the vehicle to a home near 17 Avenue and 44 Street SE with the help of a HAWCS helicopter. The occupant of the vehicle ran into the home.

“Officers have contained the residence and at this time, there is no risk to public safety,” police say.

Due to the police presence, 44 Street SE is closed in both directions between 17 and 18 avenues. Callers to the CityNews 660 traffic centre reported around 7 or 8 police cruisers in the area.

The investigation is ongoing.
