Former chair of ATCO subsidiary to head review into Calgary feeder main break

The former head of an ATCO subsidiary will lead the independent review into Calgary’s Bearspaw feeder main break.

The City of Calgary announced Thursday Siegfried Kiefer will lead the volunteer advisory group made up of Dawn Farrell, Wayne Stensby, and Dr. Edward McCauley.

The trio was tasked with choosing its leader.

The city says Kiefer has over 40 years of managing and operating critical infrastructure and will lead the panel in examining what happened, why it happened, and what changes are needed to prevent this type of incident from happening again.

He will work with the advisory group to select an expert panel of senior industry leaders, establish terms of reference, and finalize the details of the mandate.

All names put forward to participate as panel members for the review have been collected and passed along to the chair.

The review is expected to take a year.

Once the panel is finalized, the city says Kiefer will guide the review process and oversee the final report which will eventually be shared with the public.
