A widespread Microsoft outage is causing major disruptions in many industries around the world Friday. In Calgary, public transit is being affected, as are flights and banks.
Phone lines at the City of Calgary are being impacted, however, it is unknown whether or not this is changing anything for Calgary Transit.
The Calgary Fire Department, Calgary Police Service, and Alberta Health Services haven’t reported any issues so far, meaning 911 services is operating fine at this time.
Hospitals around the city seem to be operating alright — staff at both the Peter Lougheed Hospital and Foothills Medical Centre have confirmed systems are running fine. One person at Alberta Children’s Hospital confirmed there were issues on Thursday that have since been resolved.
Some major airlines have been hit with delays, and at Calgary International Airport, there are several Porter and WestJet cancellations listed on the YYC website.
Banks are also dealing with technical difficulties that have prevented direct deposit from working for some customers.
