A woman was sent to hospital and a family has been temporarily displaced after a house fire in southwest Calgary on Friday morning.
Fire crews were called to a home on Shawbrooke Close SW in the community of Shawnessy after 9:30 p.m. for reports of a fire.
Firefighters arrived to find dark smoke coming from the house and a woman outside with burns to her face and hands.
Investigators say the fire started in an upstairs bedroom and the woman tried to put it out before leaving the home. She was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation and burns.
No other injuries were reported.
Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and contain to the upstairs room, but the rest of the home was damaged by smoke.
The family of our who live in the home, along with their pets, will be displaced for some time, according to fire officials.
The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) confirms the house had working smoke alarms.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
