One person is dead and two others have serious injuries after a head-on crash on a rural highway near Drumheller on Thursday morning.
Emergency crews were called to Highway 9 near Highway 836, about 35 kilometres west of Drumheller, around 7 a.m. for reports of a collision.
RCMP say it was a head-on crash between a detached semi-truck and a car.
The driver of the car, a man from nearby Carbon, Alta., was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passenger from the semi-truck were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi-truck was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
The highway was closed for several hours but reopened by the early afternoon.
