Crews battle fire after reported explosion at downtown Calgary seniors home

Crews are battling a fire at a seniors home in downtown Calgary on Friday afternoon after a reported explosion.

Emergency crews were called to the home in the East Village on 6 Street SE near 9 Avenue SE around 3:45 p.m.

Fire officials tell CityNews they received reports of an explosion on an upper floor of the residence. Crews encountered black smoke coming from a fourth floor window when they arrived.

There is no word on any injures.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
