Calgary city council has shot down a proposed housing development in the southwest that has taken over city hall for the last three days.
The Glenmore Landing proposal sparked a three-day long public hearing, with many people expressing concerns about the environmental impact of the project.
Over 400 letters of opposition were sent to the city.
The developer, RioCan, was proposing to build six highrise towers equipped with 1,200 apartment units. The location in question is currently used as park space.
Ken Taylor is with the community association that has been strongly opposed to the project. He is happy with the verdict.

“I can tell you that council got it right,” he said. “They listened to the citizens.”
Coun. Kourtney Penner, the councillor for the area, voted in favour of the development.
“I am deeply disappointed in my colleagues, because all of the answers to all of your debate were there,” she said. “You’ve had a chance to meet with the applicant and administration on this file.”
The project was defeated six to eight, with Coun. Peter Demong, Dan Maclean, Jennifer Wyness, Raj Dhaliwal, Terry Wong, Sean Chu, Sonya Sharp, and Andre Chabot voting against.
More to come.
