Calgary’s MNP Community & Sport Centre getting near $90M expansion

Calgary’s MNP Community & Sport Centre is getting a multi-million dollar facelift.

The sports complex across from Stampede Park along Macleod Trail SE will undergo a $87.5 million expansion which will mostly be paid for by the city, according to Calgary’s Director of Recreation & Social Programs Heather Johnson.

The city will contribute $57.5 million, along with $20 million from the province and $7.5 million from the Lindsay Park Society.

“It’s a testament to the collaborative efforts to invest in the future of our community,” says Johnson.

Additions in the west end of the complex will include a state of the art lazy river, hot tub, water slides, wading pool and a dedicated viewing area for parents.

The south expansion plan will redefine the main entrance leading into a community hub that will include food and beverage stores, and more.

The MNP expansion is one of the steps the city is taking to update its recreational centres.

“We must invest further in new modernized recreational facilities,” says Johnson.

Construction is expected to start this fall and is anticipated to take 30 months. Officials are planning a phased approach to the work in order to minimize disruptions to programs and services.

West expansion:

  • A state-of-the-art lazy river and hot tub

  • A dedicated viewing area for parents to relax while keeping an eye on the fun

South expansion:
