The Calgary Public Library (CPL) says they have finally restored full service after a cyber security breach last year.
In a release on their website, the library says their “pathway to recovery” involved a three-staged approach where their tech teams restored more than 2,000 technology systems and devices across 22 locations in 10 weeks.
The first stage involved restoring secure staff networks and devices, and allowing for communication and connectivity across all 23 Library worksites. Stage two saw the reintroduction of some digital and technology services in CPL locations, and the last stage saw the restoration of full technology services.
“The Library has also taken the opportunity to improve digital services where possible,” reads the statement. “As such, the Library will be implementing a new public desktop computer access software in early 2025.”
The October data breach forced all branches to close for several days before reopening with limited services.
Customers were able to check out books, but were not able to return any materials for several months.
The library has said no data was compromised in the attempted ransomware attack that their systems were able to block.
