Calgary police looking for witnesses after 17 Avenue SW hit-and-run

Police are looking to speak with witnesses after a hit-and-run in southwest Calgary last month.

Emergency crews were called to 17 Avenue SW between 4 Street and 5 Street around 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 24 after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.

Police say a male was crossing the street when he was hit by an SUV that was travelling eastbound on 17 Avenue SW. Investigators say the victim was not crossing in a crosswalk.

The pedestrian was rushed to hospital in serious condition. He’s now in stable condition, but police say he has long-term injuries.

Investigators believe the SUV was travelling at high speed. The vehicle is described as a small, dark-coloured SUV that was last seen turning northbound onto 4 Street SW.

Police have gathered security footage from the area and are now asking anyone who was in the area and may have dashcam footage to contact them.

Anyone with information is urged to call police at 403-266-1234, or submit tips anonymously to CrimeStoppers.
