Calgary man charged in drug, gun seizure drove 100 km/h in school zone running from police

Calgary police have laid charges against a man following the seizure of drugs and guns in the city’s northwest.

On Monday, June 3, following a three-month investigation, investigators from the District Operations Team (DOT) in District 7, executed a search warrant at a property on Evansridge Park NW.

During the search, police found and seized a number of items, including cash, guns, cocaine, opioid pills, tranquilizer pills, mixed-amphetamine pills, LSD, methamphetamine, and oxycodone pills.

Police say the estimated value of the seized drugs is $96,000.

Officers also found body armour with police patches, raid vests, zip ties, a duty belt, helmets, security badges, and CPS and RCMP-issued pants.

On the same day, before they executed the search warrant, police tried to pull the suspect over during a traffic stop around 2 p.m. in the northwest community of Sherwood.

The suspect made no attempt to stop for police, according to officers, and sped away.

According to police, he ran multiple red lights and stop signs and hit the sidewalk curb, damaging the vehicle.

The suspect left the vehicle and entered an unoccupied pickup truck that he had previously parked in the area, and continued to flee from police.

While driving the second vehicle, police say the suspect drove through more stop signs and red lights, and drove through a school zone going 100 km/h.

Around 2:45 p.m., the suspect parked the vehicle in Evanston, police say, and tried to get away on foot.

With help from HAWCS (Helicopter Air Watch for Community Safety) and patrol officers, the suspect was found and arrested.

Cory Matthew Kambach is now facing seven counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, one count of flight from a police officer, one count of dangerous driving, and one count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The 42-year-old is set to appear in court on Friday, June 21.
