Calgary fire crews knock down NE basement fire, rescue 1 person

Crews knocked down a fire in a northeast Calgary basement Wednesday evening and rescued one person inside.

Battalion Chief Innes Fraser tells CityNews, initially firefighters didn’t see any smoke until they walked around the property on Martinview Close NE.

“They did find smoke emanating from a basement window, once they made entry through a door way, they discovered fire in the basement. Crews quickly entered and knocked down what was a cooking fire,” he explained.

Fraser says crews also found one person in the basement suite who had an “altered level of consciousness” and was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation and elevated carbon monoxide levels.
