The historic blanket rezoning hearing at Calgary city hall wraps up for the weekend on Friday after two straight weeks of feedback from residents.
The marathon public hearing began on Apr. 22 and has gone on for 12 hours each weekday in order to give hundreds of registered people a chance to speak.
The city says a total of 611 residents have had their say out of the 965 who registered to speak. There are still 92 people left who have registered to voice their opinions when the public hearing resumes on Monday morning, according to city officials.
City hall also received more than 6,000 written submissions as part of the hearing.
The city’s blanket rezoning plan is an attempt to make it faster for housing approvals, and make it easier for more housing options to be built across the city, by allowing R-CG — also known as Residential Grade-Oriented Infill — which would mean more duplexes, rowhomes, or townhouses could be built.
