Appointments now being booked at Calgary’s new cancer centre

Weeks ahead of its grand opening, cancer care appointments are now being scheduled at Calgary’s new cancer centre.

The Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre is still under construction and is slated to open at the end of October, and the province says some patients with cancer appointments booked on Oct. 25 and beyond will have them scheduled at the new facility.

The province says those affected will be notified of the location change through ‘myAHS Connect’ and by mail.

“This represents a key milestone as we prepare for the clinical opening of the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre,” says Health Minister Adriana LaGrange in a statement. “We look forward to welcoming patients to this world-class facility where they will receive personalized treatments with exceptional care.”

The new centre is next to the Foothills Medical Centre and near the University of Calgary in the city’s northwest. It’s expected to offer inpatient and outpatient services and will feature 160 inpatients beds.

The facility will also include more than 9,200 square metres of research space that will focus on prevention, early detection and patient-centred treatment.

The centre was named after it received a $50 million donation from the Arthur J.E. Child Foundation.
