Mounties in Airdrie are warning the public after someone reported buying a fake phone online that was disguised as an iPhone.
Airdrie RCMP allege a seller listed an iPhone for sale on a social media marketplace and sold it to a buyer.
When the buyer got home and tried to log into Apple features, the phone did not work. The buyer brought the phone to an Apple store where it was confirmed to be a fake phone.
Investigators say the seller sealed the phone inside an iPhone box and included the correct labelling and security numbers related to iPhone products.
Police are now urging the public to use “extreme caution” when buying items online, warning “products that appear legitimate can be fake.”
The investigation is ongoing.
