5 Avenue Flyover in downtown Calgary closed due to collision, one person in life-threatening injuries

Calgary’s Fifth Avenue Flyover is closed Thursday morning due to a collision, causing major delays downtown.

Police tweeted just after 8:30 a.m. that road closures are in effect for one block surrounding the intersection of 3 Street and 5 Avenue SE, including the closure of the flyover.

Alberta Health Services paramedics responded to the area around 7:30 a.m. for reports that a person had been hit by a vehicle.

EMS says an adult with life-threatening injuries was taken to Foothills Medical Centre.

The closures could be in place for some time, according to police.

Drivers are asked to find a different route.
