Three Edmonton youths have been charged and a fourth youth suspect is wanted in connection with the attempted murder of an 18-year-old woman last month.
Westlock RCMP say the victim sustained serious life-threatening injuries in the Sept. 7 assault. She is expected to survive.
Investigators say the woman was transporting the accused out of Westlock when the male suspects “suddenly attacked” her near the Long Island Lake RV Park in Westlock County. Police allege they intended to kill her and leave her in the forest.
The woman was first taken to a local hospital before being taken by STARS air ambulance to an Edmonton hospital for further treatment.
Authorities subsequently identified four youth suspects. Three of them were arrested and charged with attempted murder, robbery, aggravated assault and more. They were remanded into custody and have future dates at the Alberta Court of Justice in Westlock.
RCMP have an arrest warrant for the fourth suspect.
“The Alberta RCMP dedicated a large number of investigators to quickly solve this priority investigation,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Jeff Sehn in a news release. “The ongoing safety of the victim was and remains as our primary concern.”
Westlock RCMP are working with the Edmonton Police Service and the Eastern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit.
