Unresponsive man hospitalized in critical condition after being pulled from Bow River

Calgary police say they were called to an area of the river, just west of Crowchild Trail, at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday after a passerby saw a man who was floating in the river.

Calgary police are investigating after an unresponsive man was pulled from the Bow River Thursday afternoon.

In a statement, police say they were called to an area of the river, just west of Crowchild Trail, at about 3:45 p.m. after reports that a passerby saw a man who was floating in the river and appeared to be unresponsive.

Police say members of the Calgary Fire Department assisted in removing the man and he was transported to hospital in critical condition.

Calgary Fire Department battalion chief Bruce Barrs told CBC News that fire department personnel retrieved the man from a shallow gravel bar near the middle of the river.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and ask anyone with any information about the incident to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
