The death of a man in southeast Calgary on Sunday that was first deemed suspicious has been ruled a homicide, according to the Calgary Police Service (CPS).
The victim has been identified as Abdoul Madiou Balde, 24, after an autopsy was completed on Wednesday by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, police said in a news release that afternoon.
At approximately 4:05 p.m. on Saturday, officers were called to reports of a seriously injured man in the alley behind the 2200 block of 42nd Street S.E., according to police.
The man was declared dead when EMS arrived.
The homicide unit is continuing to investigate. Police are asking that anyone with information contact the police or Crime Stoppers.
CPS says this is Calgary’s ninth homicide of 2024.
