Shelter-in-place order lifted for Wheatland County, suspects still at large

A shelter-in-place order issued for residents of Wheatland County has been lifted, Strathmore RCMP say.

Mounties say they thoroughly searched a contained area and are confident the suspects are not there.

Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, an Alberta Emergency Alert said two armed and extremely dangerous suspects were in the area of Highway 564 and Range Road 252 north of Strathmore, Alta.

Residents within the following township roads were asked to stay inside and not open their doors:

  • North border — Township Road 262.
  • East border — Range Road 245.
  • South border — Township Road 252.
  • West border — Range Road 255.

The suspects are still at large and RCMP say they have no further information regarding them.

In a release, police said they are continuing to investigate and will provide updates as the situation develops.

“Trust that the RCMP and their partners are doing everything they can to successfully resolve this situation,” said the statement.

Police are still on the scene and are asking the public to avoid the area.
