RCMP say a motor vehicle collision north of Cochrane has left a 19-year-old male dead and three other adults injured.
In a news release, RCMP said Cochrane officers responded to reports of a collision at the intersection of Highway 22 and Township Road 281 in Rocky View County at approximately 1:15 a.m. Sunday morning.
Two vehicles, a truck hauling a trailer, driven by the 19-year-old male, and a small SUV, were travelling north on Highway 22, say RCMP.
The collision occurred when the truck overcorrected after driving off the road and onto the shoulder — the truck first swerved into the southbound lane, before returning to the northbound lane, at which point the SUV collided with the trailer.
The truck and trailer came to rest in the ditch after striking a guard rail, say RCMP. The 19-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The SUV came to rest in the southbound lane. It’s three occupants, two males and one female, who are all 26-years-old, were treated for non-life threatening injuries and taken by ambulance to hospital.
RCMP said officers are still at the scene conducting an investigation. While both lanes were closed on Sunday morning, traffic flow returned to normal at approximately 11:30 a.m.
