Man ejected from vehicle in collision on Deerfoot Trail dies

A man in his 30s is dead after a single-vehicle collision in southeast Calgary on Sunday morning, police say.

Officers say it happened just after 7:30 a.m., as a woman in her 30s was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado south on Deerfoot Trail S.E. approaching the interchange with Anderson Road S.E.

The man was riding in the front passenger seat of the truck. Police believe the vehicle continued straight and entered the median as the road diverged.

The front passenger side of the vehicle struck a light pole, which tore the truck’s front passenger door off and the man was ejected from the vehicle.

Police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman driving the truck was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators are working to determine whether speed or impairment were factors in the collision.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact police.
