Calgary police charge man with attempted murder after domestic assault stabbing

Police have charged a 30-year-old Calgary man with attempted murder after a domestic-related stabbing in the city’s southeast.

On Friday, officers were called to an apartment in the neighbourhood of Quarry Park where they say a woman had fled her home after being stabbed multiple times.

The victim was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Police said the suspect left the area in his vehicle but was tracked down and arrested a day later.

He has been charged with attempted murder and seven counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order, including contact with the victim and not to possess any weapons.

“Domestic violence is a complex problem that can only be addressed when everyone in the community works together to end it,” reads a statement from the Calgary Police Service.

“Abuse thrives in silence.”

Police did not specify the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
