Many people have tried cooking alongside family members or friends, and found the kitchen they’re in just won’t make that possible.
It’s too tight, the design doesn’t let them move the way they’re looking to, and sometimes there isn’t the surface area to support everyone working on their various tasks.
People in the market for a townhome and enjoy making meal preparation a group effort may find a fit with the Violet by Baywest Homes. This is one of the models at its Heirloom Street Townhomes development in Rangeview. A show home depicting this option is currently on display in the southeast Calgary community.
Its kitchen, located at the back of the main level, is L-shaped and spacious. The two entry points help with ease of circulation. There are both long stretches of counter space and a well-sized island, offering plenty of room for multiple people to spread out ingredients and prepare.
Moreover, the appliances are thoughtfully paced, including sufficient distance between the stove and fridge. This decreases the chances of people accessing both appliances and feeling cramped.
In the show home, there is a microwave over the range of the stove and the fridge has french doors.

Standing beneath stylish pendant lighting, the island includes an eating bar that seats at least three people and does not have a sink. Rather, the sink sits beneath a large rear-facing window. People who have children may appreciate this format as a way to wash dishes while keeping an eye on their children playing out back.
The kitchen is part of an open-concept design that connects to a central dining area and great room at the front of the floor plan.
In this situation, it is easy to replace one’s everyday table with something larger, if the occasion calls for it. This is achieved by allowing this table to take on some of the square footage typically allotted to the great room short-term.
One of the highlights of the dining area is that it lines up with a substantial window that fills the area with sunshine. It is easy to imagine how much more enjoyable Saturday morning pancakes would be with this influx of natural light.
The great room is a generous 11 feet nine inches by 15 feet and faces stairs to the second level.
Privacy is a consideration on the second level, with the primary bedroom on one end and two secondary bedrooms on the other.

The primary reaches 12 feet by 13 feet and includes a walk-in closet and ensuite. The ensuite features a shower with a glass door and tile.
In the show home, one of the secondary bedrooms is staged as a home office. This could be an appealing route for families with one child.
These bedrooms are located within a few steps of both a full bathroom and laundry area with a stacked front-load washer and dryer. Regarding the latter, this creates a quick path for carrying and putting away a clean load of laundry.
A fourth bedroom and additional full bathroom can be found kitty corner to one another in the developed basement. This level also boasts a large rec area, ideal for everything from movie nights to hosting friends to watch the NHL playoffs.
