It is not uncommon for a kitchen to feel crowded. This is especially true when family members enjoy preparing meals together.

Proper use of space and design can mitigate this challenge. A front-drive single-family model by Trico Homes achieves this in its kitchen.

The 2,067-square-foot Oxford II is now displayed as show home in the award-winning southeast Calgary community of Legacy. Ideal for people who enjoy the outdoors, Legacy includes 300 acres of developer-protected environmental reserve.

In this show home, the kitchen is L-shaped, providing access from two sides, making mobility throughout the space easier.

There’s also a generous amount of space between its island and features along the kitchen walls. This makes it easier to pass one another without creating a disruption.

Moreover, the kitchen includes four surface areas, making it easier for dinner preparation to be a team effort. One of these surfaces is the above mentioned island, which includes a sink and eating bar that seats at least two people.

The kitchen is presented with stainless steel appliances, including a fridge with French doors and over-the-range microwave.

People who place a value on storage will be attracted to this kitchen, as well. It is equipped with both a substantial assortment of cabinets and large walk-through pantry. This, in turn, offers higher potential for a well-organized kitchen, lacking clutter.

The kitchen is positioned in a way so that someone behind the island can maintain eye contact and conversation with another person in the great room.

This gathering space reaches 13 feet by 15 feet 10 inches. In the show home, its focal point is a stylish elongated fireplace.

A series of rear-facing windows welcome natural light into the great room and adjacent dining area.

The foyer is designed in a way that keeps these open-concept gathering spaces out of sight. Anyone standing at he front door will not see much beyond the immediate space.

In the first floor hallway, just outside the kitchen, there is a built-in desk. It’s easy to imagine this space being used by one of the children of the family to polish off a homework assignment. In case of any questions, their parents would be within ear shot as they put the final touches on dinner.

Another work station is on the second floor. In the show home, a jutted out portion of a stub wall across from the bonus room and overlooking the stairs, is demonstrated with a small desk and chair.

The bonus room separates the primary bedroom from the other rooms on the second level, creating a buffer and sense of privacy.

Measuring 13 feet by 14 feet, the primary bedroom boasts an upscale ensuite with a walk-in closet accessed from within it.

The ensuite stars a substantial glass-encased shower with full-height tile. Next to is it a deep soaker tub. There is also a sink with two vanities beneath a full-width mirror.

Both secondary bedrooms have a walk-in closet. The larger of these bedrooms is 12 feet six inches by 10 feet.

Only a few steps from these bedrooms is a laundry room with a front-load washer and dryer. This creates a quick and convenient path for putting away a clean load of clothes.
