Of all the discoveries to be made at the 2024 Calgary Fall Home Show, whether it’s design ideas or the inspiration for home improvements, inner peace might be the last thing you’d expect to find. Certified confidence coach Alyssa McMasters says that the inner peace that comes from making confident decisions, especially during a home renovation, is just as important as the work.

“Renovating is a stressful thing. It’s like anything that requires transition such as a new job, becoming a parent, or moving to a new country or new a home. You need confidence to feel secure in that transition,” says McMasters, who founded her Calgary company Let Me Introduce Yourself in 2020.
McMasters will workshop the premise of renovation wellness and inner peace through confidence at the Calgary Fall Home Show, running Sept. 27 to 29 at the BMO Centre. She will host two, one-hour Main Stage presentations in which she will lead attendees through a worksheet. She’ll throw out questions that will help audience members identify their strengths and also weaknesses that, with a few tools, can be overcome.
“There are times we question ourselves, like, ‘who am I to be doing this’ and, ‘will this renovation look bad.’ We all have those inner critics — I call it the negative insecurity bully. A two-week project turns into two months or maybe it never gets done. I have tools I use to make that voice quieter than the voice who says, ‘heck ya, I can do this,’ ” she says.
Her session will cover communication tactics so that people can ask for exactly what they want as they go through a renovation rather than caving into someone else’s ideas.

A former advertising sales representative, McMasters was inspired to become a certified coach when clients noticed her own bravado and asked for advice. In the past four years, she has worked with small business owners, teens and parents, particularly mothers. She believes her own confidence came from doing things she didn’t believe she could do, overcoming obstacles and coming out stronger on the other side. It’s a process she teaches in her workshops.
“Inner peace comes when you take a breath knowing you’ve got this. No matter what, it’s going to turn out fine because you’re making the right decisions along the way. You’ll also have better conversations with the people around you and you will also save money because you aren’t making wishy-washy decisions,” she says.
