The award-winning community of Alpine Park in Calgary’s deep southwest just keeps getting better. The 646-acre community, located on the doorstep of the southwest ring road, recently launched its Central Park, a new three-acre park (the seventh park to open since the community’s inception three years ago), along with nine new show homes.

Designed to be a people-first community, Alpine Park takes the best of new urbanism and melds it with biophilic living, a concept used within the building industry to increase occupant connectivity to the natural environment through the use of direct nature, indirect nature, and space and place conditions.

“The community really takes advantage of its incredible location between the mountains, the city and the prairies to pull together the best elements of Calgary into one place,” says Catharina Mendonca, marketing manager, Alberta land and income properties for Dream Developments, the developer behind Alpine Park.

Walkability is a key attribute of the community, as is architecture that is inviting and draws people to the front of their homes to interact at street level with the community. Porch-front living, homes that front onto park spaces, mature tree-lined streets, community gardens that are already in full swing and even an orchard garden with Tuscan-style farmhouse tables create an ambiance of old-world charm.

“These are great places for residents to enjoy right away, which is unusual for a new community,” says Mendonca, noting that Alpine Park “really has that sense of a community that has been around for a long time.”

Alpine Park recently won the award for Best Growing Community at the 2024 Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) National Awards for Housing Excellence held in May in Saint John, N.B.

“It was really nice to be recognized,” says Mendonca. “I think some of the big challenges with suburban communities are the cookie cutter homes and the fact that there is nothing there — if you want to go to a park or to a store you’ve got to go out of the area, because initially, you’re basically living in a construction site. Dream has done has a great job of putting some of those amenities in place right away.”

A comprehensive village centre, located within an eight-minute walk of every home in the community, will soon be under way and will offer retail and grocery offerings, along with a highly interactive public realm.

When it comes to housing styles, the community also stands apart from the rest. Architectural styles are pulled from relevant, common styles found within historical and modern Calgary, iconic historical styles and landscape-inspired styles — craftsman, contemporary, mountain, prairie, farmhouse and chateauesque designs.

The new show home parade features nine new show homes in total: three from Cardel Homes, one from Homes by Dream, three homes from Calbridge Homes, a new fee-simple townhome show home by Genesis Homes and a new 76-unit townhome project by Homes by Avi — Woodland at Alpine Park.
