Concord’s bedrooms provide room for family to grow

In large families, the eldest child often needs more personal space than their younger siblings. This is particularly true for older adolescents.

With that in mind, it’s valuable when home design to reflects this difference in need through the characteristics of its bedrooms.

An optional second level format demonstrated in the new Concord show home by Trico Homes provides a potential solution. This 2,323-square-foot, front-drive single-family model is now presented in the northwest Calgary community of Glacier Ridge.

While the standard plan has three bedrooms on the second level, in the show home there are four. One of the secondary bedrooms is shown with both a walk-in closet and ensuite. These features, particularly the ensuite, more typically accompany the primary bedroom.

The above mentioned sleep space, which overlooks the front yard, is the largest of the second bedrooms in this home, reaching 12 feet eight inches by 10 feet. In some homes, those are the dimensions of the primary bedroom.

Beyond working for a teen in the family, this bedroom could be ideal for the grandparents in a multi-generational household.

The other two secondary bedrooms are positioned side by side and across the hallway from a full bathroom.

A central bonus room provides a layer of privacy, separating these bedrooms from the primary bedroom along the back of the second level.

On top of that, the bonus room stuns. The welcoming 15-foot nine-inch by 12-foot space boasts an elegant tray-style ceiling design.

The star of the primary bedroom is its upscale ensuite. It contains a generously sized shower with full-height tile and a thick glass door, along with a deep soaker tub beneath a large window.

There is also a long vanity with two sinks beneath a full-width mirror. There is plenty of space between these sinks, making it easy for a couple to start their respective work days at the same time. It also gives each party more than enough room for their own hygiene and hair products.

The bedroom’s walk-in closet is accessed from within the ensuite.

On the main level, things are open and bright.

A row of rear-facing windows pull natural light across the adjacent dining area and great room, and further into the central kitchen. Along with the windows, there is a glass door that opens to an 11-foot by 12-foot deck.

People in the family who enjoy cooking will appreciate the size and design of the L-shaped cooking space. Among its highlights is storage, including an array of cabinet doors and drawers. This strength is further supported by a walk-through pantry.

The kitchen has an island with a sink and eating bar that seats three people, and is shown with stainless steel appliances. This includes a fridge with french doors and wall oven.

In the great room, the focal point is a stylish rectangle-shaped fireplace. As seen in the show home, visual interest of this piece is further enhanced through use of eye-catching wall paper.

If someone in the family needs to work from home, they have an attractive option through a flex room just off the foyer.
