A man faces assault charges after reportedly stabbing a Calgary Transit Peace Officer in the arm during a scuffle at the Chinook CTrain Station Friday.
Police say they were called to the southwest station on reports of a peace officer being stabbed just before 10 p.m.
They believe two peace officers went up to an unknown man drinking alcohol in a bus shelter, when the man became “combative” and pulled out a knife.
Officers say a “brief struggle ensued,” which led to one of the peace officers being stabbed in the arm.
Despite trying to flee, police say he was arrested by the peace officers a short distance away.
The peace officer who was stabbed was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.
Calgary man 42-year-old Wiliam Cody Woodward now faces charges of assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and failing to comply with a release order.
He is in police custody and is expected to appear in court on Monday.
CPS Insp. Jason Bobrowich says the incident was dynamic and highlights how quickly a situation can develop and “the dangers that exist to all peace officers every day.”
“Calgary Transit Peace Officers do an incredible job keeping transit users safe in Calgary and we are grateful that this member will be okay.”
