Alberta RCMP say a 5-year-old girl was found dead after a canoe overturned at a lake west of Edmonton Sunday.
Police say reports came in for a capsized watercraft on Wabamun Lake just before 3 p.m.
They say the girl was pulled from the water by nearby bystanders before police and emergency crews arrived.
However, despite life-saving efforts, police say STARS and EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.
A second person, a 35-year-old woman, was also pulled from the water by watercraft in the area. Her condition is unknown at this time,
In the meantime, police say the chief medical examiner has been called in and the investigation is ongoing.
They also add part of the investigation is to determine the use of any personal floatation devices in the canoe.
