Two people dead in separate Calgary collisions hours apart

Calgary police are investigating two separate collisions that happened Wednesday that left two people dead.

Fatal incident between car, bus

The first crash happened just before 5:30 p.m., when officers were called to the area of 24 Street SW and Bridlecrest Way SW for reports of a serious collision between a sedan and a Calgary Transit bus.

Investigators believe the car, driven by a woman in her 40s, was driving south on 24 Street SW approaching the intersection at Bridlecrest Way SW, when the car crossed the path of the bus, which was driving north.

The car hit the bus head-on, and despite attempts by first responders, the woman died on scene.

The driver of the bus and its passengers were not hurt.

Speed and impairment are not considered to be factors in this collision.

Anyone who may have seen the collision or has dashcam footage, is asked to contact police or CrimeStoppers.

Fatal pedestrian collision

Three hours later, around 8:30 p.m., police were called to a scene at Charleswood Drive NW and Brentwood Boulevard NW for another report of a serious collision.

Investigators believe a man in his 60s was crossing Charleswood Drive NW in an unmarked crosswalk when he was hit by a SUV, driven by a man in his 60s.

The man was declared dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts by first-responders.

Police say the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and wasn’t hurt.

Speed and impairment aren’t considered to be factors in the collision.
