Man stabbed while waiting for bus in SE Calgary

Police say a man is recovering in hospital after being stabbed multiple times while waiting for a bus in southeast Calgary Tuesday evening.

Staff Sgt. John Guigon tells CityNews there were multiple calls for service around 7 p.m. in Penbrooke Meadows, along Pensacola Way SE.

Police believe there was a fight between the victim and a group of boys that escalated to him being stabbed several times.

At this time, no arrests have been made, and police haven’t been able to confirm whether the suspects are minors.

Guigon says the incident appears to be targeted.

“It doesn’t appear to be random,” he said. “The amount of stab wounds he suffered does not suggest that … but we’d like to ensure that’s the case.”

The victim was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, but has since been upgraded to stable.

Given the severity of his injuries, Guigon says police have yet to speak with the victim, and need to do so before any arrests or charges are laid.

There were apparently several witnesses to the incident, including the bus driver and people who were waiting at the bus stop. There are also CCTV cameras in the area.
