The owner of a used car dealership with locations in Calgary and Airdrie is facing several charges in a vehicle theft and re-vinning investigation.
RCMP say on Aug. 28, its RCMP Auto Theft Unit, with help from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team, and Calgary Police Services, searched three locations in Calgary and Airdrie in connection to an investigation that started last year.
Calgary-area dealership International Motor Cars had two of its locations searched. There, police found three stolen and re-vinned vehicles. The vehicles had been sold through the dealership or were advertised for sale, according to RCMP.
Another vehicle located on one of the lots was also determined to be the proceeds of crime, police say.
The owner of the dealership, 26-year-old Airdronian Brooks Stella, has been charged with money laundering, possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking, fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, forgery, and two counts of trafficking property obtained by crime.
RCMP is also working with the Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council (AMVIC) to help the ‘numerous’ victims of International Motor Cars.
Stella was released from custody and is scheduled to be in Airdrie court in two weeks.
