The air in Airdrie on a sunny day in late August is warm and comforting, setting the backdrop for a pivotal moment: Today, Christine Warnock and her daughter Paige are picking up the keys to their new home.
They purchased the Hadley H, designed and built by Bedrock Homes in the community of Key Ranch.
This single mom has been waiting a long time for this. In 2020, she sold her townhome in northwest Calgary so that she and her daughter could move in with her aging parents to help care for them. Her parents recently died, leaving this mother-daughter duo in transition.

“My parents had a beautiful life, and we had time to process, but we were in limbo. Did we want to keep their home, or start a new chapter,” says Christine.
In mid-June, Christine decided that it was time for a fresh start and she engaged a realtor, a family friend, to assist in the search for the perfect home.
“It all happened pretty quickly after that. He sat me down and really asked some key questions about what we were wanting in a home,” recalls Christine.
For Christine, location was key. The home had to be within a close commute to the airport, as she works for WestJet. It also had to be in a family-friendly community, with amenities nearby.
“Our realtor then introduced us to Bedrock Homes. We went to see one of their spec homes in Key Ranch and I fell in love immediately. It was the second home that I saw on our tour of many, many homes, and I just couldn’t get it out of my head,” says Christine.
Christine had fallen for the Hadley H, a three-bedroom, 2½-bathroom, two-storey front-drive garage home that features 2,237 square feet of living space. When she initially saw the home in June, it was fully framed and nearing completion.

It was the location, the price point and the floor plan that sold Christine, along with the fact that possession would only be a matter of months.
“This home has an upstairs floor plan unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. It has this walkway, like a bridge, with these big, beautiful iron railings and it’s open on both sides So, it’s really pretty and it lets all of this light in to the downstairs, making it feel really big and open,” she says.
The bridge catwalk connects the master wing with the bonus room and two secondary bedrooms.
The configuration also allows for some separation and privacy, which works well for Paige, who is 15 and attends online school.
The kitchen, in addition to being set up with all of the bells and whistles, including a large island and pantry, also has an adjacent office area with a built-in desk.
“It will be a perfect place for Paige to do her school work,” says Christine, noting that with the upstairs bonus room, there can be some separation between relaxing time and school time.
“The Hadley is one of our newer models and has quickly become one of the most popular,” says Ryan James, sales manager, Calgary Region for Bedrock Homes, citing some of the home’s stand-out features — “the convenient secondary entrance to the basement, the luxurious master suite with large walk-through closet connecting to the laundry room and the open-to-below bridge leading to the master suite.”

Bedrock Homes, an Edmonton-based builder, celebrating its 50th anniversary, has recently entered the Calgary market (it broke ground on its first house in Calgary in early 2024) and is building in a few communities in Airdrie, as well as co-developing Heartwood, a new community in Calgary’s southeast in conjunction with Rohit Communities. Other upcoming projects include West Hawk in Cochrane and Osprey Hill in west Calgary.
Key Ranch, located in West Airdrie, is a new 120-acre residential community situated along the ridge with expansive Rocky Mountain and city skyline views and access to plenty of nature, including ponds, parks and play areas, all connected via a scenic pathway system. Christine says that she can see farmers’ fields with cows from her kitchen window. “Which is so cute.”
Ryan James notes that the landscape and proximity to the Rockies looms large in buyers’ decisions in Calgary.
“Within Key Ranch and our other developments, there are opportunities to showcase some pretty stunning vistas. We strategically plan our models and windows to take full advantage of the views,” he says.

For Christine, moving to Airdrie was a big jump, but a welcome one.
“I’ve been in Calgary most of my life — as Calgarians we tend to pick our quadrant and stay there for life, but Airdrie is so close to the city and so close to the airport, which is what matters for us, but it also still feels very small town-like and friendly. From one end of the city to the other, it’s like 10 minutes,” she says.
Even though they didn’t get to choose the finishes because the home was too far along in construction when they purchased it, both Christine and Paige absolutely love the colours and esthetic inside and out, especially the Heritage details on the facade — the gabled hip roof, the stone accents and the front porch.
“We’ve been stalking the house. We drive by a couple of times per week. It was kind of funny because when we first saw the exterior, it had a primer on it and was this taupe colour and we were like ‘oh, that’s so pretty’ and then we went away on holidays and came back in July, and we were like ‘whoa’, it was a completely different colour — a deep charcoal, which we absolutely love,” says Christine.

Once they get settled into the house over the next weeks, new furniture is on the agenda, as is a new puppy. “I don’t know what Paige is more excited about: the new house or the promise of the dog with the new house. Either way, she’s really happy and so am I.”
