Two men charged in ‘brazen’ 2023 shootings on Calgary freeway, suburbs

More than a year after a man was left in serious condition after being shot in Calgary’s southeast, police have laid charges against two men.

Around 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, a driver called police to report a shooting involving two vehicles on westbound Glenmore Trail near 37 Street SW. The vehicles left the scene before police arrived and no one was hurt.

About 30 minutes later, police were called to a home in the 100 block of Seton Passage SE for reports a man had been shot while parking his vehicle.

When police got there, they found a man who’d been shot. He was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Investigators believe the suspect fired multiple rounds during the shooting in Seton and stray bullets hit four houses in the area. He then left the scene in a stolen vehicle.

Both shootings targeted the same person, according to police, and investigators think they were targeted.

On Oct. 18, 2023, while trying to arrest two suspects involved in the incident, an officer discharged their service weapon. At the time, Calgary police say one suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and one officer was taken to hospital in stable condition.
