For many people who work from home, their so-called office is the end of the kitchen table.

In some cases, when homes have designated work space, it’s understated and undersized. In either scenario, it can be difficult to perform at one’s best.

A new show home by Morrison Homes in the Calgary community of Legacy shows how luxurious working from home can be.

The Clifford II is a 2,118-square-foot, front-drive single-family home with three bedrooms and 2½ bathrooms.

Its flex room, set up across from the kitchen, boasts a soaring open-to-above room staged as a home office. This volume creates visual interest and inputs additional natural light through the additional windows afforded by its taller than average exterior wall.

Helping move that light is a large glass pane on one wall of the spacious office and two panes below a bulk head flanking its entrance.

The kitchen is L-shaped and features an island with a sink and seating for at least four people. In the show home, this space is presented with a full-height white tile backsplash and stainless steel appliances, such as a fridge with french doors and chimney-style hoodfan.

It offers abundant storage with a walk-through pantry that leads to the mudroom. This setup is handy for when hauling in bags of groceries, creating a direct path from the car into the kitchen.

Adjacent to the office is a rear-facing great room, that includes an unconventional format. Rather than a TV mounted above the fireplace, it boasts a stylish elongated fireplace side-by-side with a niche, staged with the TV. There are two shelves above the niche, ideal for displaying family photos and small pieces of art, such as pottery.

One of the most effective ways to make rooms within an open-concept floor plan distinct is use of accent wall. This is done in the show home with an eye-catching wall paper on an exterior wall in the dining area.

One of the characteristics that dictate how long a home can serve the needs of a family in the longer term is the secondary bedrooms. In this home, both are well sized, with the larger of the two reaching 12 feet five inches by 12 feet. That is comparable to what can be seen from the primary bedroom in some floor plans.

The show home displays this model’s optional upper floor, giving every room a walk-in closet. This helps these bedrooms support the needs of the children of the family as they grow older. Both secondary bedrooms are positioned a few steps from a full bathroom.

There’s also a floor plan option allowing for four bedrooms on the second level.

In the show home, the secondary bedrooms are separated from the primary bedroom by a 14-foot four inch by 12-foot eight-inch central bonus room.

The bonus room is shown with a long desk, demonstrating its ability to support what the children of the family need to polish off a school assignment or study for an exam.

In the primary bedroom, the L-shaped ensuite ticks every box. It includes a large soaker tub, shower and vanity with two sinks beneath a full-width mirror. The bedroom’s walk-in closed is accessed from within the ensuite.
