Alberta RCMP says they handed out 1,982 traffic tickets, and three people died in collisions over the Labour Day long weekend.
Between Aug. 30 and Sept. 2, there were two fatal collisions in Alberta, which resulted in three people being killed.

“Most traffic-related tragedies are avoidable, and we are reminded of this every long weekend. We want everyone to get home safely. Avoiding distracted and impaired driving goes a long way to making that happen,” says Sgt. Darrin Turnbull of Alberta RCMP Traffic.
From those tickets, drivers were clearly in a hurry, as 990 speeding tickets were issued.
An additional 35 tickets were handed out for distracted driving, and 55 were for not wearing a seatbelt.
Mounties also removed 92 drivers from the road who were caught driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol.
“The Alberta RCMP wants to remind everyone that there is no reason to get behind the wheel if you are impaired. If road conditions are unfavourable, consider delaying your travel until they improve, and always give yourself adequate time to get where you are going,” said RCMP in a statement.
