Blue Jackets’ Johnny Gaudreau, brother confirmed dead

American hockey star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew have died after an “unimaginable tragedy,” the Columbus Blue Jackets announced via a social media post on Friday.

Star forward, 31, survived by his wife and two young children

American hockey star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew have died after an “unimaginable tragedy,” the Columbus Blue Jackets announced via a social media post on Friday.

The team confirmed the death of the brothers in a post on X, but no other details surrounding the incident have been released.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman also released a statment about Johnny Gaudreau’s passing, saying that  “he was more than just a dazzling hockey player; he was a doting father and beloved husband, son, brother and teammate who endeared himself to every person fortunate enough to have crossed his path.”

Johnny Gaudreau was 31.
