ASIRT called after Calgary police shoot man attempting to rob NW liquor store

Alberta’s police watchdog is looking into the Calgary police after an officer shot a man attempting to rob a liquor store in Montgomery Sunday.

Officers say they received a call about an attempted robbery at Ace Liquor on 5032 16 Avenue at 2:30 p.m.

The suspect was spotted by police holding a weapon. However, despite repeated attempts demanding he drop it, the suspect refused, leading one officer to shoot him.

The suspect was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No injuries were reported.

As a result, Alberta’s police watchdog, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), is now investigating.
