Stamps Fall In Toronto

It was a strong first half for the Stampeders but the Toronto Argonauts battled back for a 39-25 victory.

Calgary falls to 4-5 on the season and 0-5 on the road.

Cam Echols, Peyton Logan and Tommy Stevens had touchdowns in the loss.

The Stamps managed a point from a punt single on their first drive of the game on Friday night following a couple of first-downs.

The Argos responded with a touchdown through the air on their first drive to make the score 7-1.

Calgary once again moved the ball well through the air with Jake Maier hitting Reggie Begelton for a deep ball and then Cam Echols came around the edge to finish off a touchdown driving making it 8-7 Stamps.

That would the score following one quarter of play.

The Stamps continued to march the field while on offence however Rene Paredes missed his first field-goal of the season to keep the score 8-7.

Demerio Houston got his fourth interception of the year late in the half following a Micah Awe deflection. The Stamps started with the ball in Argo territory and didn’t take long to find the endzone as Peyton Logan pushed it in from a couple yards out to make the score 15-7.

That was the score heading into the half.

Bentlee Sanders forced a fumble with the Argonauts deep in Stampeders territory which was recovered by Cam Judge to get the ball back for his offence.

Toronto recovered a fumble of their own on the same Stamps drive getting the ball back at nearly the same place they had previously turned the ball over.

The Argonauts would add a field-goal to their score to make it 15-10.

Toronto then returned a punt for a touchdown and added the two-point conversion to make the score 18-15 halfway through the third quarter.

The Argos put three more on the board late in the third to make it 21-15 heading into the final quarter.

Calgary answered early in the fourth with Begelton powering his way inside the Argonaut five-hardline. Then it was Tommy Stevens who punched the ball in to make it 22-21 Stamps.

Toronto would get a pick-six on the next Stampeder drive regaining the lead 29-22 following another successful two-point conversion.

The Stamps were stopped on third-and-short in their own end giving the Argonauts great field position halfway through the fourth quarter which led to another field-goal to make it 32-22.

Calgary answered with a field-goal of their own to make it 32-25 with under four-minutes remaining in the game.

The Argos were able to put together a strong drive late resulting in a touchdown to go up 39-25. That would be the final score.
