Letters, July 27, 2024: ‘Trump doesn’t deserve the hype’

Article content

I would like to know why you insist on giving coverage to Donald Trump. Just because someone shot at him doesn’t mean he deserves all this hype. In fact, his actions that day should be deplored. I say this because back in 2017 after another mass school shooting he was very critical of the police response and repeatedly said that if he had been there he would have charged in there and stopped it. Well, here we are and not only did Trump not run toward the shooter, but he ducked and covered before the secret service got there and shielded him. So I ask where was all his bravado and concern for his fellow citizens? So please stop giving this guy press time til he starts acting like a man.

BRITT MOCKRIDGE

(Like him or not, an attempt on a former president’s life warrants coverage.)

We’re getting hosed

What is wrong when some places in B.C. have lower gas prices than Calgary. I am talking around Vancouver and into the Okanagan. We sure get hosed in Calgary paying for gas. Instead of boycotting Loblaws we should be boycotting the gas stations that jack their prices up for no reason except excess profits. Each area in town has different prices even if they are the same station such as Esso, etc. One raises it up and others start to follow suit like puppets. It is not even a long weekend.

DEBRA TOWNROW

(Prices at the pump are getting more shocking by the day, it seems.)

Doing their jobs

With regard to Rick Bell’s column on Saturday, July 20, (Not I, Says Mayor), Her Worship takes great pains in thanking the dedicated city workers for giving up family dinners, sleepless nights to ensure Calgary’s water flow is restored. Head’s up, Your Worship … they were doing their jobs and getting paid with some hefty overtime to boot. If only much of city council had the same talent and commitment when they are “performing” their jobs, we wouldn’t have had to deal with this fiasco in the first place.

LINDA PHILIBERT

(The city workers certainly deserve a pat on the back, but we are interested in finding out how and why this happened in the first place.)

I’m with her

Please, please tell me Ms. Sonya Sharp is going to run for mayor so that there is some hope for the future.

SUSANNE EVANS

(Ya, she’s a keeper.)
