Shane Homes’ Fairway fills with natural light

In many homes, the heads of the household have an impressive bedroom, ensuite and closet. But then there are models that take that those concepts to a unique scale.

Some homes give the owners a space so substantial and with additional high-value elements that it actually feels like its own distinct wing.

Shane Homes tees up this experience in the Fairway. This 3,088-square-foot, front-drive-single family model is presently displayed as a show home in the upscale southwest Calgary community of Aspen Spring Estates.

The sleep space, dubbed the owner’s suite, is 11 feet five inches by 16 feet 10 inches on its own.

While the walk-in closet in some master bedrooms is capable of functioning like a dressing room, this suite has its own designated dressing area. It accesses both the walk-in closet and ensuite. This creates an all-inclusive district for getting ready in the morning.

The closet, rectangle-shaped and generously sized, also links to the laundry room. This creates a quick path for putting away a clean load of laundry.

The ensuite provides a luxurious spot to start and end one’s day. It stars a custom curbless shower with a rain shower head, 10 mm glass and full-height tile. Windows in the ensuite are largely positioned near the tops of its nine-foot walls, creating privacy for the person using the space. 

There’s also a vertical window positioned off-centre on a wall containing two vanities. Between these vanities is a chic free-standing soaker tub.

The largest secondary bedroom has an ensuite and walk-in closet, as well. It is 12 feet 11 inches by 13 feet one inch.

Splitting the two ends of the second floor is a central family room, sometimes called a bonus room. This space receives a high volume of natural light through both a series of windows near the top of the exterior wall and much larger ones on a full-height wall it faces.

Supporting this spread of sunshine is a so-called floating staircase with open oak risers and a glass railing. The landing on this staircase has an eye-catching quartz waterfall feature.

Glass continues to be a focus on the main level, where at the bottom of the stairs, soaring panes close off an IT zone or home office.

Ceilings are the main level are 10 feet. This uncommon volume contributes to the home’s upscale quality. Some say higher ceilings also support feelings of freedom and creativity.

While the dining area is a part of the open-concept design with the kitchen and great room, it feels individually significant. The rear-facing space to which it is devoted juts out, relative to the great room, also on the rear wall.

The dining area, which also boasts a distinctive tray-style ceiling design, has sliding glass doors that step out to a covered deck.

Like the staircase landing, the quart kitchen island incorporates a waterfall feature. The island helps the kitchen function as a social hub, with an eating bar that seats at least five people. Many islands seat two or three.

A walk-through pantry draws a path from the kitchen to the mudroom, a handy format for hauling in groceries from the garage.

In the show home, the walk-in basement is demonstrated with a bedroom, bathroom, gym, and large rec area with a bar.
