Letters, July 12, 2024: ‘Time winding down on Trudeau’

Article content

We have another year left of Justin Trudeau being in power before we can throw him out the door, unless a miracle happens. How much more damage can he do to Canada and the economy in the time period is beyond belief. His if-it-moves-tax-it policies only drive Canadians to the brink of no return. I guess we will have to rely on government handouts to survive and then we will be grateful to him for looking out for the Canadian people.

DEBRA TOWNROW

(That’s a pretty gloomy outlook.)

Sacrificial libs

As all polls indicate, Pierre Poilievre will be our next prime minister. Why would any Liberal step in at this time to replace Justin Trudeau and be the loser in the next election? It would make more sense to let the Trudeau brand formally die, and then find a competent leader after the election. But that is where the real challenge may lie, as most of his ministers are quite weak and any skilled backbenchers are relatively unknown.

(Sounds like a plan.)

If we only knew sooner

When Prime Minister Stephen Harper prognosticated that Justin Trudeau was simply not ready to lead Canada, voters should have listened. Former Liberal MP Lt.-Gen. (ret’d) Andrew Leslie has said Trudeau is an absolute disaster on foreign policy decisions. We all recall how Trudeau promised he would return Canada to the world stage. Unfortunately, Trudeau has done that by being a total embarrassment on that stage. Now former MP and astronaut Marc Garneau is saying that Trudeau is simply not up to being Canada’s leader. Too bad both Leslie and Garneau never voiced those concerns long ago. Two other high-profile ministers, Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott, left after disputes with Trudeau and also were not forthcoming with the public on their real views about Trudeau. These four Liberal MPs could have saved Canada from years of Trudeau’s disastrous leadership had they been truthful with Canadians long ago. It’s time Trudeau did what is right for Canada, not himself, and left.

(The evidence is mounting.)

Change at the top

The byelection loss put the Liberal party in doubt with Trudeau fatigue and now the debate performance of President Biden put the Democratic party in doubt. What a contrast. For the Democrats, I prefer Pete Buttigieg to step in and for the Liberals, Marc Miller. In the U.S. it needs to be done sooner, here in Canada we have some time.

ANANT NAGPUR

(Nice to see someone step out on a limb by suggesting a couple names.)
