Environment Canada has downgraded tornado warnings for parts of southern Alberta as severe thunderstorms move east across the province.

The weather agency continues to track severe thunderstorms that could bring damaging winds, large hail and intense rainfall.

Thunderstorm warnings are currently in affect for:

  • Calgary, and surrounding areas.
  • Rocky View County near Cochrane.
  • Vulcan County near Lomond, and the Travers and Little Bow reservoirs.
  • Vulcan County near Vulcan and Ensign.

Environment Canada says northeast parts of Calgary will be affected by the storm, which has been devastated by hail in the past. Officials recommend taking cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Earlier on Sunday night a tornado warning had been issued for the M.D. of Willow Creek near Nanton and Parkland, as well as Vulcan County.
