Domestic incident in SE Calgary prompts significant police presence

Calgary police are asking the public to avoid a cul-de-sac in New Brighton Tuesday morning, as officers deal with a domestic incident.

In a tweet just before 6:30 a.m., CPS advised they were on scene in the 0-100 block of Brightondale Close SE for an ongoing incident.

Staff Sgt. John Guigon explains that officers have already been on scene for some time.

“Around 2 o’clock this morning, we responded to a domestic violence call at that address,” he said. “Fortunately, the victim of that domestic violence is safe, however the suspected offender has thus far refused to exit the residence, and we are currently in negotiation with that offender to give himself up.”

Guigon says that no guns are involved in the incident, and there is no risk to the public at this time.

Residents of the area can expect to see a significant police presence in the area for some time.

This is a developing story.
