Mattamy Homes’ Fullerton is full of functionality and charm

Some homes create efficiencies and conveniences that aren’t necessarily apparent at first glance.

These are elements that improve various parts of the home, making it a better fit for the family that occupies it long-term.

In this regard, one design to think about is seen as a show home by Mattamy Homes in southwest Calgary’s Yorkville community. It is a front-drive garage home measuring 2,043 square feet, with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.

With that said, the home has elements that make it feel even larger. Rather than placing the staircase at the back of the main level, where it may compete with the kitchen and great room for square footage, it’s near the front of the home.

In turn, the great room and kitchen feel more spacious than they typically would.

The L-shaped cooking space has an exceptional amount of storage space, with both walls featuring a high volume of cabinet doors and drawers. Every can, box, pot, pan and kitchen gizmo has it own spot, decreasing instances of clutter and disorganization.

On the far wall, there are open shelves and cabinets with glass inserts, ideal for showcase items, such a one’s favourite dishware and recipe books.

The kitchen appliances are stainless steel, including a fridge with french doors and a chimney-style hoodfan. This space also features an island with a sink and eating bar that seats at least three people.

Next to the kitchen is an open spot on the wall. In the show home, this is presented with a small desk, ideally suited for dropping car keys, mail and other miscellaneous items.

The great room, which contains a box-shaped fireplace with a mantle, and dining area line up along the main floor’s rear-facing wall.

People who value privacy when answering the front door will appreciate the way in which the foyer in this home is designed. Apart from a slight view of the great room, on the opposite end of the home, sight lines from the front door to gathering areas are restricted.

The foyer fills with natural light, thanks to a glass insert within the door, and glass to the side of it and above it.

The other front entrance to the home is a spacious mud room that accesses the garage. It includes bench seating with drawers.

Any family with multiple school-aged children understand the challenge of one waiting for the other to finish getting ready in the second floor full bathroom. With two sinks beneath a full-width mirror, as seen in the show home, more than one child can fix their hair and brush their teeth at the same time. This trims valuable minutes, especially when trying to get both children out the door on time.

Between the entrance to the master bedroom and the sleep space itself, there’s an abbreviated hallway. This delivers a privacy buffer. This may be useful preventing noise from being a disruption when the children of the family stay up later than their parents, perhaps watching a movie or gaming in the second floor loft.

The master in the show home is grand and upscale. It is highlighted by a substantial glass-encased shower with full-height tile. It stands next to a deep soaker tub over looked by a wall niche with open shelves.

It, too, has a vanity with two sinks and a full-width mirror above it. There’s plenty of space between these sinks, giving each occupant sufficient surface area for their respective products.
