Calgary police want to speak with Good Samaritan in attempted murder case

Calgary police are looking to speak with a Good Samaritan they believe may have information about an attempted murder in the downtown core earlier this month.

Investigators say around 1:45 a.m. on Friday, May 17, police were called to 3 Avenue SE for reports of assault with a weapon against two victims.

Police believe the man and woman were looking at a City Centre Information Map near Centre Street and 4 Avenue South when a teenager with a knife came up to them and tried to stab the man.

The pair ran away and the suspect followed them, according to police. They ran for five blocks, when the woman went down an alleyway on 3 Avenue SE and hit underneath a parked car.

The suspect followed her, and the man was able to flag down patrol officers for help.

Neither the man or the woman were hurt in the incident.

Police say the suspect tried to leave the area but was arrested a short distance away.

The suspect and victims didn’t know each other.

Investigators say the 16-year-old suspect has been charged with two counts of attempted murder in connection to the incident.

Their next court appearance is June 6.

Police say a woman was standing near the Dragon City Mall at 328 Centre Street SE at around 1:40 a.m., when she saw the woman running and followed her into the alley to make sure she was alright.

The Good Samaritan is described as an Indigenous woman between 25 and 35 years old, with a medium-heavy build dark hair. At the time, she was carrying a small black purse, was wearing her hair in a high bun, and had on a grey zip-up hoodie, black mid-thigh bike shorts, and black moccasins.
