One dead in glider crash south of Calgary: RCMP

Mounties are investigating a fatal glider crash south of Calgary.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Highway 7 between Diamond Valley and Okotoks around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a crash involving a “non-motorized aircraft.”

RCMP tell CityNews the lone male occupant of the glider was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say witnesses described seeing the glider in distress before the pilot jumped out in an effort to avoid the collision. RCMP believe his parachute did not eject.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
