Power outage causes CTrain delays, blank traffic lights in NW, SW Calgary

An unplanned power outage in northwest and southwest Calgary is causing trouble on the CTrain line and in traffic Monday morning.

Enmax says the outage, first reported around 8:15 a.m., is affecting Bankview, Capitol Hill, Elbow Park, Hillhurst, Houndsfield Heights/Briar Hill, Lower Mount Royal, Parkdale, Rosscarrock, Scarboro, Spruce Cliff, St. Andrews Heights, Sunalta, University Heights, Upper Mount Royal, and West Hillhurst.

The company estimates more than 5,900 customers are impacted.

Callers to the CityNews660 traffic centre report the outage is causing them to be stuck and unmoving on the CTrain line, as well as encountering traffic lights that aren’t working.

Calgary Transit posted to social media around 8:45 a.m. that some areas of both the Red Line and Blue Line could be running behind schedule.

Enmax says the cause of the outage is under investigation and service could be restored as soon as 10:30 a.m.
