A Calgary woman’s quick reaction was caught on camera as she stopped a would-be thieves trying to lift a package from her front door.
A doorbell-camera captured the moment on Sunday when Danielle MacPherson saw someone approaching the front porch of her northwest Calgary home and reaching over to pick up a delivered parcel.
“Had my coffee, looked out the window and saw my delivery being made on my doorstep,” she says. “I noticed a woman walking up shortly behind with a car rolling up.”
The footage shows MacPherson run out her front door in a robe and slippers, leaping down her front steps to chase the thief down her front walk. The quick action forced the culprit to drop the parcel before making it back to the waiting car parked on the street.
The person who attempted to grab the package and another person can be seen getting in the car before it drives away.
“Didn’t have time to take the stairs, there was three of them,” says MacPherson, on her decision to leap off her porch towards the group.
MacPherson was able to get the license plate of the getaway car by quickly clearing the snow off the back before it drove off. She can be heard reciting the license plate information as she made her way back into her house with her retrieved parcel.
She has since reported the incident to police.
“I’m glad I didn’t get injured there from that athletic movement, but also by the hands the three suspects,” she says.
Calgary police are advising anyone in a similar situation to avoid confrontation, but to take down any possible identifying information.
MacPherson says she is thankful she is okay after confronting the group and warns any future porch pirates that she’s watching out for them.
“Would I do it again…probably.”
